HUMPHREY BOGART slated his most famous film ahead of its release. He thought it was "unbelievable" as the behind-the-scenes drama escalated. Between Bogart's crumbling marriage , excessive drinking and director fights, it was a miracle it was made let alone loved. Even the film's legendary love song was hated by the composer.
